Background

The Linguistics Association of Ghana was established in 1992. It evolved with expanded membership out of what was originally known as the Linguistic Circle of Accra, which had been founded in 1967 at the University of Ghana, Legon. After January 1999, the Association became dormant. It was not until 2010 that it was revived with a new constitution as a result of meetings held late in 2009 and early 2010.

Activities

The Association organizes two major activities in the year: a workshop, aimed at enhancing the academic skills of its members in January and a conference, where academic papers are presented and critiqued, in July-August each year.

Membership

Membership of the Association is open to scholars of language, particularly those who work with and or are interested in languages spoken in Ghana and the West African sub-region. Student membership is encouraged for advanced (graduate) students of linguistics and language studies.
