    EDITORIAL NOTE

Dear esteemed readers of the Ghana Journal of Linguistics,

It is with great pleasure we announce the publication of this latest issue of GJL! This issue marks our first of 2018 and we are pleased to have four solid double-blind peer-reviewed articles representing a wide range of linguistic research.

These articles exemplify GJL?s commitment to serving stakeholders by continuing to providing a hub for diverse linguistic scholarship. It is our fervent hope that GJL readers will find issue 7(1) engaging, intellectually stimulating and informative as we continue to promote the dissemination of top quality peer-reviewed research from throughout Africa.

This year, in addition to the regular issues, we look forward to a guest-edited special issue on the emerging research area of Areal Semantics. The Guest Editors of the special issue are Prof. Felix K. Ameka, Prof. Maria Koptjevskaja Tamm and Dr. Jonathan Brindle.  The articles to be included were selected from several that were presented at the School of Languages Conference (SOLCON), which took place at the University of Ghana in 2015. We are excited about this issue and we look forward to its forthcoming publication here at the Ghana Journal of Linguistics.

Finally, as always, we at Ghana Journal of Linguistics (GJL) would like to thank authors, reviewers, readers and the entire membership of the Linguistics Association of Ghana (LAG) for their continued support. Additionally, I would like to thank LAG?s Executive Board, our Editorial Board, our Editorial Committee and most especially our Consulting Editor, Professor E. Kweku Osam, whose guidance is invaluable. We look forward to future issues of GJL as we continue to showcase the rich tradition of rigorous interdisciplinary linguistic scholarship from Africa and the African world.

    Vol. 6 No. 3 (2017)

We are pleased to announce the publication of our latest issue of GJL! This issue is noteworthy as it marks our third for this year with our regular issue 6(1) having been published in July and our special issue 6(2) published earlier in December. In the current issue, 6(3), we are proud to have four strong articles representing a diverse range of areas of linguistic interest.

The papers of this issue are a testament to the wide variety of theoretical approaches and diverse research areas pertaining to linguistics found in Africa. In this vein, GJL continues to serve as a hub of scholarship, providing an avenue for the publication of double-blind peer-reviewed studies on language, linguistics and all interrelated disciplines. We hope that our readers find this issue intellectually stimulating and informative as we continue to explore and gain a deeper understanding of linguistic phenomena from innovative perspectives.

    Vol. 6 No. 2 (2017)

This special issue of GJL contains seven papers coming out of the eighth annual conference of the Linguistics Association of Ghana, hosted by the Departments of Modern Languages and English Language at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology on 27th–29th July 2015. The conference theme was ‘Language in the Midst: Theories and Practice’, and under this umbrella a wide range of papers were presented, ranging from topics in theoretical and descriptive linguistics to discourse analysis, language and gender, language and social issues, language and religion, language and politics, language in education, language and literature and corpus linguistics. Some 25 languages were discussed, including Arabic, French and local varieties of English. Paul Kerswill (University of York) gave a keynote dealing with demographic change and dialect change in the UK, drawing parallels with language change in Africa.

The papers we present here reflect the diversity of the conference, dealing not only with the indigenous languages of Ghana, but also those spoken elsewhere in Africa, including Nigeria and Kenya, as well as English in Africa and internationally. Topics, too, are diverse, covering phonology (Kuubezelle & Akanlig-Pare), morphology/syntax (Imoh, Areo, Moles & Gambo, and Lamidi), discourse (Kpogo & Abrefa, Kambon & Duah, Kambon & Dzahene Quarshie) and language and literature (Kodah). We hope you find this collection stimulating and informative.
